BU with FULL $ ----- VERSUS ----- Georgetown with NO $ Post Wed May 16, 2012 1:04 pm
Hey guys,
I am an international applicant, and was wondering which of the above is a better bet.
I am interested in Finance / Entrepreneurship.
Would like to be close to NYC in the long run, so distance-wise it's the same.
Thanks!

Georgetown is best for International Service not for business

BU isn't that great either, what was your GMAT score?

My GMAT score was 750. However, I think something must have been missing from my application.

With that score, why didn't you get a full ride to Georgetown?

Are you attending this coming Fall?? If I were you, I would wait abd apply next Fall to better schools.

I was expecting some scholarship as well.
I will be attending this fall, and for some personal reasons, I cannot wait till next year.
Therefore, I think BU is my best bet. Any more opinions?

Anirudh,

Did you apply to any other programs? I haven't been to b-school yet but BU seems like a good school as well and Boston is an amazing city (probably a better place to live than DC/Foggy Bottom I'd imagine).

Do you plan to work in the US post-graduation? If so, what sectors? Please share your profile as well.

If I were you, I would apply to Booth's or Kellog's part-time program. Their deadlines aren't until mid-June for Round 1, and you'd have the option to transfer to full time next year (and with that 750, it wouldn't be that hard). Both Booth and Kellog will get you further into Finance and Entrepreneurship than BU or Georgetown. If you're decided on BU or Georgetown, I'd say take the money at BU. It's a comparable school to Georgetown, but it'd be free and you'd be in Boston, a major finance hub, but it can't compare to Booth for finance.

Thanks guys!
I had gotten an interview from CBS, but my local alum interview totally ruined it for me. He was one of those who was hell bent on keeping me out of CBS. Anyway, I think I'll go with BU. Post graduation job offers and progression in your career eventually depends on you, and even though a lower ranked school will help you, it's not a pre-requisite.
If you guys have any more opinions before I finally decide on BU, please let me know.
