Books for SC and CR Post Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:32 am
Hi,

I am currently using all the 8MGMAT guides for my preparation.

I know that for SC MGMAT is the best. For CR and SC will add value if I use the MGMAT guides or should I use the powerscore. Pls advice.

Since I already have MGMAT, I don't want to invest in Powerscore books ( for CR & SC) is the content is 90% same.

Please give me your guidance. A fast response is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Kind Regards,
Bharath S

In all honesty, the MGMAT Critical Reasoning book is my least favorite in their series. If you lived in Europe I could give you advice on whom to go to for Critical Reasoning; regrettably, however, there is not presently a Critical Reasoning book on the *open* market that I could recommend as a truly solid and scientific reference.

You'll probably want to supplement your sentence corrections as well with a little outside, non-GMAT material. Here are some of my favorite references:

CCC Foundation Sentence diagrams http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/diagrams/diagrams.htm
Errors in English and Ways to Correct Them by Harry Shaw
The King's English by the Fowler brothers (also available online: http://www.bartleby.com/116/)

Powerscore CR is a great book for those who are too weak in CR else MGMAT CR is suffice. Powerscore CR would be useful if you don't know how to break down CR questions i.e not able to understand the types of questions once you read them eg. strengthen, weaken, assumption etc.

For SC - MGMAT SC is the best as far as i know.

I lived in Europe and am preparing for the exam right now.
Do you want to share your CR recommendation for Europeans with me? Smile

Thank you,
Kevin
