Topic: B schools for internationl jobs
PostFri May 30, 2008 7:48 pm

Hello,

I am a US citizen who would like to work for an international company in India, post MBA. Do you know any schools that are known for placing students in international positions, specifically India.
Thanks
Anosh

Hi Anoosh,

Thanks for your post! Without knowing too much of your profile and post-MBA career interests, I would argue that most top-MBA programs have international opportunites. Particularly in fields such as MC or IB, which allow domestic hires for international assignments (i.e. Bain Consulting recruits on-campus in the US with placement options available worldwide)

Similarly, most top programs have international alumni clubs (including India) which is an invaluable resource for companies in those countries. You can leverage these contacts to network into companies you are interested in.

That said, I know Wharton has very strong ties/connections in India. I dont believe any Indian-based companies recruit on campus (or any US MBA program per se), but given Wharton's strong Indian network, you shouldnt have any problems finding what you are looking for.

Good luck!

NP

NP,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, Wharton is definitely out for me. HAH! But I think what I'll do is see what multi-nationals have a strong presence in India and work my way backwards.

See ya,
Anosh

Hi Anosh,
Another thing to consider are domestic programs that have relationships with Indian schools. Then you could spend a few weeks/months at a MBA program in India - allowing you to network with Indian based companies.

Alternatively, many MBA programs have 'immersion' programs, where you spend several weeks traveling through a country/region to meet with companies, alumni, government, ect. Again, another great networking opportunity.

Good luck!

NP
