Lap   Why a timer is critical to improving your score

I took the GMAT a week ago, got a 660(Q50,V30) and 5.5/6.0 for AWA.
I was plesantly surprised at my AWA score, as i thought i had not adequately prepared for AWA. My AWA preparation was based only on the resources from beatthegmat resources, i think they have about 100 essays word document (not just the topics) on the downloads section.

Here was my strategy for AWA(only 1 week prior to the exam). While taking the regular GMAT practise tests from Manhattan or GMAT Prep. I did not write the essay that the test had suggested. Instead, i utilized the same time during the exam to write the essay for a topic or analysis of argument, that i randomly picked from the collection of the 100 essays. A t the end of the exam, i compared my essay with the essay that material had --- i was focussed more on the differences in structure/style rather than the content(Points that were made). This comparison help me get the structure right.

Hope it helps...
