Hi Stacy,

I have a lower GPA and considering taking some courses that I could have done much better on, along with a solid score on the GMAT. I graduated from University of California, San Diego (Economics). The university offers an extension program - or - local community college courses. Is one better than the other?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Gary

Dear Gary,

Admissions committees will not be so concerned with where you take the courses; they just want to see you do well in them. Whichever seems to work best with your schedule and provides the courses you want will be fine. If you are trying to demonstrate quantitative ability, I would suggest taking math courses (college algebra, finite math, calculus) instead of an accounting or finance class. Business courses are fine, but without a strong proficiency in math they will be a bigger hill to climb.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Stacy,

Thanks for the reply. 1-more question if you don't mind.

I'm planning on applying round 1 in 2009;

So basically I have a chance for 2-3 semesters (interim, spring 09 and summer 09) to show the admissions commity that my quantitative ability is up to par.

Class options are;

College & Matrix Algebra
Trigonomitry
Elementary Statistics
Calculas/Analytical Geomitry
Differential Equations
Linear Algebra
Discrete Mathematics

If I had to choose 3 courses, which would you recommend? Does it even matter? As long as I score well in them?

Thanks again,

Gary

Gary,

Your best options off that list, in terms of b-school preparation, are College & Matrix Algebra, Elementary Statistics, and Calculus. I also think Discrete Mathematics could be a helpful course.

Regards,
Lisa
