Hi, I took GMAT today and scored a 700.
I was doing better in practise tests. Got 710s in two and 720s in another 2 MGMAT.
Also got 730, 760 in GMATPrep 1 and GMATPrep2 respectively.
How bad is a 700 given that I am from IT background?
Thanks for you advise.

I ain't no pro, so take my word with grain of salt.
you can still make it to big 5 if you have something exceptional in your profile.
which are your target schools? if you have a strong app (besides your score) then with this score i hope you can make it if not to ultra elites then at least to elite B schools .
Best of Luck

Someone earlier on this forum wrote a post about Indian IT males having a hard time getting into top 10 schools. The reason stated was, there's just too many Indian IT males with similar education and work experience applying. I guess if you add a twist to your essay and goal statement, then perhaps you have a chance. Try consulting with an admissions firm.
Thanks

Thanks for your responses.
My worry is will they even open my application docket given this score. I would like to believe that I have good academics (GPA 4), roughly 4 years work and a reasonably sound extra-curricular work.
What are the admission firms you mentioned and where can I find more information?
Thanks for your help. |

Hi Gaurav,
Before going to any consultant please try to find you fit.
Try to roam around different B-Schools' websites and try to find:
1) Entering Class Profile
2) Entering International Student Profile
3) Average GMAT range (add 40-50 to that average if you are IIM )
4) The focus of the school. Whether that echoes with your overall profile.
Lastly, remember school in 20-30 range, generally do not give $ loan as a co-signor, you may get a schlarship but rest of the money you have to arrange from your country.
Hopefully, this will help.

Well, If you feel you can improve by at least 30 to 40 on this -Why not give another try?
I do agree that app plays the most important role in admissions. But, if you have enough time before apps, giving a second try is not a bad idea. _________________ Abhay |

retaking the xam is not a bad idea but not too great too considering u hv 710 score and 4 yrs exp.
its better to give the time for ur apps and essays which you are ready to give preparing second time (for scoring 20-30 points more)..if you thnk you can take your score cross 750 then u shud definately give it a one more try , coz that wud make a difference for all we IIMs !!
expert's advice needed though
Cheers ,

Thank you all. I took GMAT again on 26th (exactly 31 days later) and scored 740 (Q50, V40) + 5.5.
I may be repeating a question but could anyone point me to resources on how to plan one's app / essays.
thanks
