690 with more than 10 years work-ex Post Mon Nov 21, 2011 2:31 am
Hi,

I am M/32/India and has around 10 years work-ex in education management. Have been handling online education business on my own in the company from the last 6 years. Have started this online division from scratch and helped my company to expand online business to different geographies (US, Canada, and the UK) both in B2B and B2C domains. But right now, I feel my career is not moving at the pace i want it to be. Either i want to stick with the same industry (but different company) or want to move to consulting. Can anyone please suggest if 1 year MBA programs will be good for me? If yes, which ones and where? Here are my details

GMAT: 690 (Q50, V32)
Education: Production Engg (7.5/10) in 1999. Since then have been working with the same company and have assumed mostly entrepreneurial roles at different stages of my career progression.

Extra curriculum: been captain of college cricket team.
Directed and won a play at district level (no certificate though)
i am a sports buff and have been active in other sports as well such as badminton, volleyball, table tennis etc.

need your suggestions.

many thanks

A few clarifications. Are you looking for US programs? Also, do you have any other extracurricular activities that you've been a part of? Given your length of experience (10 yrs), you would be a bit atypical for a number of full-time programs, but if you give me some clarification on those points, I can give you some additional guidance.

Thanks Eric,
Well, i have been involved in XCs but all sports related and not in any community work. For US, i can consider 2 year programs as well, however i would prefer 1 year programs. For Europe, i would like to go for 1 year programs.

Thanks

I like the intrapreneurial experience that you have, but no community impact is a bit of a drag. You are a non-traditional candidate given the number of years of work experience and your GMAT is just OK, so it's going to be a bit of a stretch, but here are some thoughts.

1-year US programs:
Miami (OH), Emory, Florida, Babson, Kellogg, Cornell

ex-US
IE, IAE, ESADE, IMD, Durham, Oxford, and Cranfield

If there's any way to improve the GMAT, I would take a shot. Feel free to reach out for a free consultation if you would like to discuss further eallen@admitadvantage.com

I hope that helps.
