680 in GMAT, 3.5 WE with Big 4&Unique Profile Need guida Post Mon Dec 26, 2011 7:40 am
Hi,

I have given my GMAT today and got 680 (49Q,33V). However I have attained mastery level(90%) in TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication).

I am working with Big 4 as a Senior Tax Analyst for last 3.5 years. I have graduated in taxation and commerce with a GPA of 3.8 and I had aggressive career growth. I work for Las Vegas practice and majority of my clients include Casinos and Oil & Energy Industries. I worked in the environment of versatile cultural diversity. I have handful of community and extra-curricular activities which include different leadership roles. I write quotes and poems as well.

My key questions to be answered are:

1) I am willing to apply for IESE this year. Will my profile be considered unique and standout?

2) Can my weak percentile in Verbal(64%) be compensated with that of my high score in TOEIC?

Your help in this regard is deeply appreciated.

Thanks,
Sai

Sai--I wouldn't worry too much about your verbal score. IESE will likely be more interested in your quant skills. I actually think your experience does indeed have a good chance to stand out. Accounting and Tax is a very valuable skill on an MBA study team, so you will bring tangible strengths which can be of use immediately, which you should emphasize. The fact that it was for interesting clients like casinos and energy companies will also help. you are on the right track with the mindset that you must try to stand out. There will be a lot of accounting types applying to b-school, but if you approach the application in a thoughtful way, imagining how you will differentiate yourself vs. applicants with a similar background, you should bode well. Let us know if we can be helpful.
