Topic: 6 GMAT attempts
PostWed Nov 04, 2009 11:03 am

Hi,

I need expert advise on query that i am puzzled with.

How does number of GMAT attempts impact application ?

I have attempted GMAT 6 times in last 2 years with highest score of 680 (V33/Q49)

I have a stellar work profile with 4+ work experience and very good academics. I graduated from one of the top engineering school of India.

I aspire to apply to top 10 b-school. Now i understand that I will atleast need 700+ in GMAT.

I inquired with Adcom of top schools and they told me that # of GMAT attempts doesn't make any difference. They simply look at top score. While they state on their website that they don't recommend more than 3 attempts because for most students scores don't improve.

What are your thoughts around it ?
In my case scores have improved because of increased preperation.

Do you recommend me to attempt GMAT once again ?

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your post. In general the rule of thumb is to take the GMAT no more than 3 times. However, it is reasonable to take it beyond 3 times if there is a significant improvement in the overall score. However, given you have already taken the test 6 times, I think you need to ask yourself if taking it a 7th time will put you over the 700 mark. If you are not confident that you can get a score of 700+, I strongly recommend that you begin to focus your time and energy on your applications.

Please send your resume to info@clearadmit.com for a free profile assessment.

Best,

Stacey
