2 Letters of Rec from 1 Company? Post Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:31 am
I'm applying to HBS and GSB, round 2. Is it negative to have 2 letters of rec from within the same company? I would normally conclude to stay away from this, but both individuals have played a major role in my professional life, and both are solid contacts in the industry. Thoughts and experience? Thanks in advance.

no... not negative... my opinion is that immediate supervisors or clients make for the best reccos... peers or subordinates are an absolute no...

if your current and previous supervisor are still in the same organisation , or you have some really impressed clients, go for it

Well often we do try and get varying perspectives, so if you ARE going for two recommenders from the same place, do what you can to make sure that their perspective and the content differs. If they are just covering the same ground you likely aren't making the best use of your application.
