951. A substance from the licorice plant, 50 times sweeter than sucrose, was recently discovered, is not only a natural sweetener but also prevents tooth decay.
(A) A substance from the licorice plant, 50 times sweeter than sucrose, was recently discovered
(B) A substance, which was recently discovered, from the licorice plant, 50 times sweeter than sucrose,
(C) A substance from the licorice plant, which was recently discovered to be 50 times sweeter than sucrose,
(D) A substance from the licorice plant, 50 times sweeter than sucrose , which was recently discovered,
(E) A recently discovered substance, 50 times sweeter than sucrose from the licorice plant,

None of the options looks right to me. Can somebody explain to me why B is the right answer?

Now look at option A - it is having the sentence construction problem - two phrase (A substance from the licorice plant) and (50 times sweeter than sucrose) continuously without any connector.
Option C - It is having reference problem which is referring to licorice plant.
Option D - Both sentence construction and reference problem.
Option E - Sentence construction problem again.
Now come to Option B - It is not having at all any problem. So by using POE, we can choose B.
But initially I was stuck to refer verb (tense) problem. As the second clause is in present tense; first one should also be in the same. But in the given options, it is at all not satisfying so I cancel out the idea!
So guys r u all agree with me!
Razz Correct me If I am wrong Smile
